Why DIGG is meaningless

As everyone who owns a computer knows, Digg is huge. I mean really, really huge. Some people think it could overtake google or yahoo as some of the most popular websites in the world. That’s big.

However, just because a site is big right now, today, doesn’t mean it’s going to be around forever. One day everyone is going to wake up and realize that digg is absolutely meaningless. People already manipulate the system, getting their buddies to digg their stories, and falsely moving to the first page. But even this isn’t why Digg will be no more. It’s even deeper than that.

See, Digg is useless. There, I said it. What have you, personally, gained from using digg? Have you found some fantastic website that saved your life? Did it make you a million dollars? Or did it simply enable you to waste a little more time rotting your eyes in front of your computer? Soon, more people will realize this, and simply stop using it. Hopefully the site owner is hording his cash right now while it’s big, because he’ll need it once the ride is over

      Digg is not useless.

It’s a NEWS site. Do you think that watching the 6:00 news is just a way to “simply enable you to waste a little more time rotting your eyes in front of your” televison?

The news is depressing more than anything, and yup it’s just another way to waste time. It’s nice to know what’s going on in the world, but ultimately what happens in other people’s lives doesn’t have much, if any, bearing on mine.
Do I watch TV? Sure. I do a lot of things that are a waste of time, and that’s just one of them.

has ANY webpage ever saved your life or improved you as a person? no. people go to digg to find interesting things to occupy their time, The same reason why people use del.icio.us or browse photos on flickr. As long as people enjoy “stuff” in addition to the other more serious news, all of these sites will be around for a long time.

Maybe I’m wrong - it’s probably happened once or twice before. More if you ask my wife ;) I just don’t see it being huge for a long long time…. not enough purpose.

    GreenLlama

Green Llama is a place to learn about making money online. Any ideas or walk-through's I have, I'll post here for your enjoyment. I also do product and online service reviews.

However, I tend to run off on tangets quite often. I call this part of the site 'random crap'. Basically I'll go off and post about whatever I want, just to keep things interesting. Have fun and stay tuned.
