Search Engine Query Reciprocity(SEQR) and you

Google Logo Jeff Kee made up a term called Search Engine Query Reciprocity, or SEQR, for short.  I personally would have shot for an easier name to say, especially since the average person can’t pronounce reciprocity, but hey, I’m not judging.

The jist of SEQR is to examine your search logs, see what people are searching for, and tailor your content to match it.  With static websites, things are a bit harder, but blogs are a perfect candidate for SEQR.  If you happened to mention ‘giant purple dogs’ in one of your posts, and you notice that you’re getting a decent amount of search traffic for it, you have a great opportunity.

Since you’re a blogger, you can just create a new posts centered ‘giant purple dogs’.  Since the focus of that post is directly on the search term, it will be keyword rich and very targeted.  Once the post is indexed, you can expect to pick up quite a bit of extra traffic, since you tailored your post.  That, my friend, is free incremental traffic.  And since the person who searched for ‘giant purple dogs’ found exactly what he was looking for – a post dedicated to the subject, he may just hang around and become a loyal reader.

This is a concept that I’ve tossed around, but never actually put into practice.  One of my flaws, yes, I know.  I have tons of great ideas, but I lack on the follow-through too often.  I’m going to make a concerted effort to write some search-tailor posts, and see if Jeff’s theory is sound.  If it isn’t, well, I guess it doesn’t matter – his advice is free, after all.

Haha I’m too much of a smartass and I went for a tougher name I guess.. Well truth is I was dealign with the word reciprocity a few days ago with another system called the MLS Reciprocity agreement.. just had to review it and such so the word stuck to my head..

SEQR is easy enough though haha.

For me, I think this did help my traffic a bit… Well, it’s tough to judge but I did have a traffic growth of 300 uniques a day in early feb, to now hitting 669 and 756 yesterday.. and the 5 days before that i averaged over 500.

The only problem is that I cannot yet pinpoint exactly which part helped the most.. SEQR was one of the many things I did to improve my blog traffic and loyalty of readers.

Just showing off your fancy learnin skills eh? Fine, stick it to us folks to can barely spell our own names, that’s ok by me.

You’re right about one thing – it’s hard to judge what exactly works or not, especially when you try multiple things at a time. But I’m going to give it a shot just the same, and see if it gives me a shot in the arm. It can’t hurt, at least, and it will help me come up with topics for posts.

Green Llama is a place to learn about making money online. Any ideas or walk-through's I have, I'll post here for your enjoyment. I also do product and online service reviews.

However, I tend to run off on tangets quite often. I call this part of the site 'random crap'. Basically I'll go off and post about whatever I want, just to keep things interesting. Have fun and stay tuned.
