Blogging Mistakes Group Project Results

The list is complete, and here are the results of Daily Blog Tips’ Blogging Mistakes group project.  Take a few minutes to read through the list and see what sort of mistakes people are making.  Remember, the goal is to learn from both your mistakes, as well as other people’s mistakes, so you can be [...]

March 2007 Online Earnings Report

March of 2007 was one heck of tough month, though I saw the warning signs pretty early. Following up my best month ever in February, March turned out to be pretty disappointing when all the final numbers were tallied up. Total net profit for March took a nosedive, at 39.28 percent down [...]

Wordpress 2.1.3 and 2.0.10 Update

The folks at Wordpress are hard at work behind the scenes, and just released updates for both the 2.1 branch as well as the older 2.0 branch.
The updates are security related, so it’s important to take a few minutes to upgrade - no one likes security issues.  A clip from the update site - [...]

Kontera ContentLink Ads Installed

Perhaps against my better judgement, I just installed the code for Kontera ContentLink.  This site normally wouldn’t qualify for ContentLink due to traffic, but I have John Chow and his partnership with Kontera to thank for the opportunity.
Kontera ContentLink ads are the blue double-underlined ads you now see sprinkled throughout the content here.  I will [...]

When are security patches a bad thing?

When they’re released by Microsoft, it seems.
I’ve been using Windows for most of my life, after early bouts with a Commodore 64 and an Apple II. I’ve been through Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.
Starting with Windows 98 ( that I remember, anyway ), Microsoft [...]

Shawn-Knight.net Review

Following in the footsteps of the creative John Chow, Shawn Knight of Shawn-Knight.net is running a Review My Blog campaign. I like Shawn’s site, and decided to take on the challenge.
So, what is Shawn’s blog about? Well, it’s hard to say *exactly* what it’s about. It looks like Shawn went to [...]

Profit vs Cashflow

Making money online is a tricky business.  The key word there is business - if you’re trying to make money online, you are essentially running a business.  Now whether you’ve taken the time to actually set up an LLC or a corporation is irrelevant at this point.  The fact is, you’re in business, and you need [...]

What should my company name be?

Very soon, I’m going to register an LLC, and begin operating my online ventures as a real, live business, rather than my current sole proprietorship method.  Why go through the trouble?  Lots of reasons really, but mainly the limited liability and tax benefits.  I also like the idea of actually owning my own business, and [...]

Worst Google Ad Ever

On my last post, What should my company name be?, I was presented with this Google Adsense ad right after the post:

Just for the record, no, I am not gay.  Just in case anyone was wondering.
I’ve seen a lot of goofy, way off-target Adsense ads here at Green Llama ( which is a topic for another [...]

Obsessive Thoughts

I just got tagged by Shawn Knight, this time for Obsessive Thoughts. From what I understand, I have to list five obsessions that I have, and tag 5 more bloggers at the end. I’m really bad at the tagging game, but I’ll give it a go just the same.

Saving Receipts: This drives my [...]

Post Level Text Link Ads

Text Link Ads has a fantastic service, but they aren’t content to just sit around and let the money roll in. Today I received an email from TLA about their latest offering - Post Level Text Link Ads. This is exactly what it sounds like - ads on single posts, rather than on [...]

Are Third-Party Advertisers Needed?

There’s been some discussion about lately, about whether third party advertisers such as Text Link Ads, Review Me, and Sponsored Reviews are really needed. Here are a few people’s differing points of view:

John Chow thinks that the relationships are important, and we need to continue using them. Without these services, John says, we [...]

Man’s leg falls off during failed robbery attempt

Ok, so you you’ve decided to steal an ATM machine. Whatever choices in your life led you to make this decision aren’t important - you’ve made the decision. So you’ve got a pickup truck, chain, and a good buddy who also wants some cash. Everything looks to be in place, so you [...]

Guru Slayer Review

Many ebooks are launched every month - more and more all the time, as a matter of fact. I try to keep my eye on the big launches, and see if the product is a hit or a miss. One of the big launches recently in the ebook world was Guru Slayer.
Right off [...]

When should you start monetizing your blog?

I was reading a post just the other day that Mitch wrote on Harpzon.com, about the downside of monetizing a blog too early in it’s life. He has some good points, especially about progressing from publishing free information to selling ebooks.
However, I have trouble agreeing with the whole concept. When you first start [...]

Be a Guest Blogger at Green Llama

I’m looking for a few guys who would like to contribute some posts from time to time, here at Green Llama. It’s pretty much a post when you can sort of gig - if you can do a post a week, then great. If it’s one a month, that’s great too.
I’m just looking [...]

Happy birthday to me

Today I hit the quarter-century mark, so that means a day off.  No work today, and no internet.  Well, a little internet - it’s hard to go cold turkey.  Anyway, off to the movies to enjoy my day.

But There’s a Catch…

(guest post by Alex)
We’re all paranoid to a certain degree.
Bombarded by endless sales messages and claims that seems too good to be true, our subconscious brains use certain mechanisms to steer us in the right direction.
One of those is figuring out what the “catch” is.
19th century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer puts an interesting spin on [...]

Registering an LLC

Last week I took the plunge and registered an LLC - and it felt great. The entire process was extremely simple, and took less than 20 minutes once I actually decided on a name. That was, in fact, the hardest part of all. I did use one of the online services, probably [...]

The Importance of Choosing a Niche

This post contributed by Adam Ferguson from Rotten Bananas.
Well I’ve been running my blog for a few months now. My official start date fell somewhere around the beginning-middle of January. It started with me saying to a buddy, “Hey let’s start a blog.” I then went home and looked at the Fantastico support built in [...]

How not to make money online

There are lots of posts here about how to make money online. Heck, this here blog that you’re reading is focused on that topic. Well, for the most part, when I’m not off talking about llamas or some such thing. Anyway…. What if you’re looking for ways to *not* make money online? [...]

GreenLlama

Green Llama is a place to learn about making money online. Any ideas or walk-through's I have, I'll post here for your enjoyment. I also do product and online service reviews.

However, I tend to run off on tangets quite often. I call this part of the site 'random crap'. Basically I'll go off and post about whatever I want, just to keep things interesting. Have fun and stay tuned.
