April 2007 Online Earnings Report

Following up a tough March, I knew that April had to be better. And fortunately, it was better – a lot better. In fact, it was even better than February 2007, which makes April 2007 my best online income month to date. Total net profit jumped 63%, and it was pretty much positives across the board. Let’s take a look at what went right in April, so I can make sure to keep doing it.

I keep trying to reduce my dependency on Adsense, but it keeps performing better and better. I can’t say I’m upset, because it’s putting more money in my pocket. Adsense revenue was up 33% over last month, which was my best Adsense month to date. Adsense accounted for a whopping 58% of my total net profit for the month, down from 75% last month, but still too high for comfort. It’s hard to have a big problem with it though, because the hard number keeps improving month in and month out.

Text Link Ads

Always a very good performer for me, Text Link Ads continued in the normal fashion. TLA income was up 14% from last month, but still off from an all-time high in February. I should make a more concerted effort to gain TLA referrals – at $25 per referral, this income can add up quite quickly. TLA accounted for 14% of my income for April.

Linkworth is a newcomer to my stable of online income sources. Like Text Link Ads, Linkworth lets me sell text links on my site. They also have some other programs, but I haven’t explored any further. I didn’t earn a lot of money from Linkworth, but I’ll take what I get and be happy with it. Linkworth contributed 3% to my earnings for April. I have a feeling that, like TLA, Linkworth will take a few months to get the ball rolling, and I’ll likely see more advertisers jump on board.

Another newcomer to my growing stable of income sources is Kontera. When I added Kontera, I was hesitant – I wasn’t sure if the income would outweigh the annoyance factor. That’s a topic for another post ( I have a Kontera review coming up soon, so stay tuned ), but I did want to report my earnings at least. I was a bit surprised, as Kontera accounted for a solid 14% of my income – just a hair short of TLA.

Affiliate Programs

I’ve had my share of ups and downs trying to figure out the affiliate game. It’s certainly not as easy as some people make it out to be. In any case, I had a decent month in this area, as affiliate earnings accounted for 8% of my income. Not huge by any means, and a number that needs to increase, but again if this number is positive then I’m pretty much a happy camper.

April 2007 Overview and looking forward

You’ll note that I didn’t include a sponsored posts section here this month. That’s because I didn’t write any sponsored reviews in April – not out of a change in viewpoint, but simply because no good opportunities presented themselves. I’ll keep an eye open for some good opportunities here – I don’t write sponsored reviews on products or services not related to one of my sites. It would just be an eyesore, and it’s not something I’m interested in.

I have shut down several affiliate campaigns that were losing money, and I’m down to just a handful of profitable campaigns. I have a few ideas in mind, now I just need to find the time and drive to put them into action, and give them a shot.

2007 Year to Date

I’m going to start a new section, that shows my progress year to date. As you can see, I have a much more diversified income than just 3 months ago, and that’s something I’m going to continue to work on. Something else that’s interesting is that I actually earned more from Adsense in April than I earned altogether in January – not too shabby.

I know some of you asked for hard numbers last month, but I’m still going to hold those back. I may change my mind later, but for now, I hope this will do.

Anyway, enough yakking. May is on us, and I want to beat April, so no time for fooling around.

Congrats man! That is awesome! I can’t wait to pull in a little cash myself. I’ve got a question for ya.

I’ve got this new niche blog setup, and I’m running adsense on it. Now, I know that the majority of adsense clickers are coming from Google, so link exchanging and trackbacks probably aren’t going to do me a lot of good, but what tactics have you used to get your niche blogs noticed?

I may just turn this into a post on my own blog to see if I can get a response, but I figured I’d ask you first.

Link exchanges don’t hurt in my eyes, regardless of who says what. Granted, one way links are 10x better, but I’d take all the links you can get, recip or not.

Beyond that, the basics really. Some directly submissions… but don’t go crazy. DMOZ if you can get in would be great – very high PR link.

And of course use your Delicious / other social bookmarking accounts to tag your posts. Anything really to get links in the beginning helps. Once you start getting indexed, then people will find you, and with any luck, link to your good stuff. You just have to get the ball rolling with the basics.

    Adsense just refuses to die…

Good stuff with the TLA though. Thanks for the report, this always makes the beginning of the month a little more interesting.

As long as the numbers keep going up, then the beginning of the month is interested for me too πŸ˜‰ It’s when it goes down that I have a problem.

At first I was confused by the lack of dollar figures, as your pie chart only allows for comparison within the current month. Then I saw where you answered comments from last month’s post that you consider it taboo to share your online income much like people consider it taboo to share their salaries. I guess I won’t ask about the dollar figures then, and I’ll simply congratulate you on the nice percentage increase from last month to this month. πŸ™‚

Thanks Matt πŸ˜‰ Let’s hope it continues the trend from last month.
