Movable Type 4.0 Beta Launches – Back to Open Source Roots

I don’t often read Techcrunch, but this story caught my eye. Six Apart just launched Movable Type 4.0 Beta, and they’re going back to open source from their current licensing setup.

For the new bloggers reading this, you’re probably wondering what in the world Movable Type is? For you guys, WordPress or Blogger are really the only solid choices for starting a new blog. Well, it wasn’t always that way. Way back when, Movable Type was the bees knees. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. But really, MT was *the* blogging platform if you were serious. It was open source ( not technically, but for all intents and purposes it was ), had a huge, loyal following, and everyone used it. Then WordPress stumbled onto the scene, and MT went from open source to license-based software, and bam. MT tanked, and WordPress flourished. The rest is, as they say, history.

The only reason I really think this launch is news, is because I used to love MT. The ability to manage multiple blogs from one single login and interface was invaluable. Beyond that, MT’s annoyances bothered me more than the positives, so I switched. Will I change back to MT? It’s very unlikely at this point. I’ve become so used to WordPress that switching to any other platform seems almost unimaginable. But I hate to say never, so I’ll be looking forward to reports on the usability and features of the new MT 4.0.

Green Llama is a place to learn about making money online. Any ideas or walk-through's I have, I'll post here for your enjoyment. I also do product and online service reviews.

However, I tend to run off on tangets quite often. I call this part of the site 'random crap'. Basically I'll go off and post about whatever I want, just to keep things interesting. Have fun and stay tuned.
