Ades Color Picker

Any of you who are even remotely familiar with web design are certainly familiar with color pickers.  There are quite a few available, so you aren’t short on choices.  One I came across the other day is called Ades Color Picker.  He spells it funny ( AdesClrPicker ), but whatever.

The cat who made the ClrPicker goes by the name of Ades, which is an unfortunate name.  It’s almost as bad as having the name Ebowlah.  Being named after a deadly infectious disease is just not right.

Enough on unfortunate names, back to the product.  AdesClrPicker pretty much does what it says – you get to pick colors.  Load up the program and go find the color that you want to know.  Hit the hot key ( default is Ctrl + Alt + A ), and your cursor will turn into a little eyedropper.  Don’t worry, it’s supposed to do that. Click on the thing that you want to know the color of ( the llama’s fur in the example below ), and the RGB value will appear below the eyedropper, and will also conveniently be placed in your clipboard for pasting fun.  Hit the hot key again to turn off the eyedropper.

The program isn’t free ( unfortunately ), but it only costs $9.90.  Would I buy it?  Nope.  I use the Firefox extension ColorZilla, which lets me pick a color from any website I like. If I need a color from a picture, I can just load up the picture in Firefox. I *personally* can’t think of a situation where this color picker would benefit me, but you may feel differently.

    Hey Leroy,

Wouldn’t you achieve the same thing pretty much by selecting the color with your fireworks or photoshop?

Thanks for the colorzilla though, I guess that saves a step for lazy designers…

Exactly. That’s why I can’t see the need for an extra program at all, let alone one that costs. Colorzilla is the supreme lazy tool for picking colors.

It’s a good program, personally I don’t like to load photoshop everytime i want to capture color. it’s too heavy.

On my Blog I have written a list of other sites that offer links for reviews (in order of Page Rank). I thought you might be interested in adding yours or using the list to get some links from some high PR blogs. Just link to the post with any anchor text and I will add your site and email me on blog at

Green Llama is a place to learn about making money online. Any ideas or walk-through's I have, I'll post here for your enjoyment. I also do product and online service reviews.

However, I tend to run off on tangets quite often. I call this part of the site 'random crap'. Basically I'll go off and post about whatever I want, just to keep things interesting. Have fun and stay tuned.
