Unsubscribe to be more productive
I’m a recovering RSS addict – I admit it. I very recently had somewhere just north of 220 feeds in my Bloglines account. I subscribed to every single blog that I found at least mildly interesting, whether it was a few posts, or even one that interested me. It was getting to be ridiculous, as I was spending far more time reading than writing. The problem with that, is that no one pays me to read - I effectively get paid to write. So, what was I to do?
Over the past few weeks I’ve been weeding out feeds that don’t interest me anymore. After getting rid of those, I went further and dropped feeds that I can live without reading. I painstakingly unsubscribed from dozens of feeds that I normally like to read. It was hard, but I did it. Today my feed count stands at 126 feeds. I still think this number is far too high, but it’s infinitely better than 200+. With less to read, I have more time to write. My income should jump accordingly, which is the effect I’m looking for.
Do me a favor though. When you’re busy unsubscribing from your feeds, please be sure to keep Green Llama. And if you’re not a subscriber yet, there’s always room for one more

Doh, hope I made the cut
Great post though. I’ve been doing the same recently, although I track everything in my feed reader including comic strips, movie releases, favorite sports team blogs, and video game releases.
Thats on top of the feeds I track for my favorite technology blogs and such.
It is definitely tough. I would recommend switching from Bloglines to Google Reader, or be like me and go desktop feed reader
Makes things a LOT easier to manage and quicker to read in my opinion. I can get through 300 feeds in about a half hour or so this way and stay up to date on world news, sports news, comics, etc.!

Yours actually did make the cut. I killed off most of the tech-related blogs, because I find them interesting, but not useful most of the time. Yours actually helps me find stuff that I wouldn’t find otherwise, so it sticks around. Keep up the great posts.
I tried Google Reader once ( though I really didn’t give it an honest chance ) and didnt’ like it. I may need to try it again, since everyone always raves about it.

I found stats addiction just as bad. I recently removed the adsense plugin from firefox to get my focus back on the content

Ahh you touched on my next post. I have tried to remove Adsense Notifier, but I freak out without it. As much as I am an RSS addict, I’m even more of a stats junkie.
