I give up - Google Wins

784060_padlock_and_chain After dropping from PR4 to PR1, and then today getting whacked from PR1 to PR0, I’ve pretty much had it with Google. Over the past two years Google has never really been a friend to this site. It didn’t just start when I started selling text links and reviews, it’s been pretty much the whole time.

Google traffic isn’t the Holy Grail of all things internet, but without it, things can be tough. Green Llama doesn’t bring in enough money in it’s current state to justify putting anymore work into it. The only way to change that would be to increase traffic. Google’s penalties make this difficult - an uphill battle that I don’t care to pursue. My time is better spent on my other sites, rather than this one.

In any case, I’m done here. Google wins. The Green Llama is no more. Good game.

Damn, that seems pretty harsh to knock this site down to a PR 0. There seems to be a lot of PR bashing all across the Internet. With the loss of PR have you noticed a drop in visitors/traffic? Some have said that their traffic has gone up while their PR has gone down. Have you seen it on this site…at all?

Total bummer. Sorry to hear about the zero.

PR zero is pretty harsh indeed. A -1 penalty is one thing, but from 4 to zero? Makes me wonder what I did to piss them off.

I get just over 4x as much traffic from Yahoo as I do from Google on this site. When you consider how much Yahoo sucks, that’s pretty bad. I know this is far from the best site in the world, but it would have potential if not for being on Google’s bad side. C’est la vie.

As I wrote on another blog - Apple.com only has a PR 9. I think that says a lot about how important and accurate it is.

Say it ain’t so! From PR1 to PR0? That’s a kick in the balls. I’m wondering if at some point Google is going to address any of the reasoning behind their new PR scheme; or if they’re just going to let everyone try and figure it out. Sorry to hear about the downgrade Leroy.

      Hey Leroy,

Not sure if you’re still subscribed to my blog - but it looks as though your getting some PR back: http://www.nusuni.com/blog/2007/10/26/google-pagerank-update-nearly-done/

The tool I use shows a mix between PR 2/3 for your blog (hope you don’t mind me listing it there, when I wrote the post I didn’t feel like hunting around for other blogs that were affected), I’d guess the final number will be 3 though.

According to SearchStatus you’re at 3. Where are you getting your data from? I think the 0 was just a short term mistake.

It did jump to PR3 , and now appears to be back down to 2. Still an overall drop from 4 to 2… doesn’t seem like it’s going in the right direction. I pissed off Google and they smacked me. Not much to be done about it I suppose.

      Leroy,

Sorry to hear that. I was just about to link out to you, what site of yours would you prefer I link to?

I’m showing you at a PR4 right now. Perhaps you shouldn’t give up just yet. Maybe Google has decided to give you some love.

Looks like you are a PR4 now man… anyway, I wouldn’t give up on the blog just because of PageRank. It is about the readers you build and the content you publish for them. One thing is great is that you didn’t pull the plug and remove the content. :)

Best wishes for your in 2008!

      Best Regards,

      Anyway, dont give up man!
A new year has started, so a new year for your blog also! ;)

    GreenLlama

Green Llama is a place to learn about making money online. Any ideas or walk-through's I have, I'll post here for your enjoyment. I also do product and online service reviews.

However, I tend to run off on tangets quite often. I call this part of the site 'random crap'. Basically I'll go off and post about whatever I want, just to keep things interesting. Have fun and stay tuned.
