Phone Arena previews the Samsung SGH-i750 and they write – ‘FCC pages have just showed the Samsung SGH-i750 phone documents. They reveal that it’s a tri-band (900/1800/1900MHz) GSM phone with cutting edge functionality, in slider design and not so big size. The device is based on Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Phones operating system, but unfortunately it is the old 2003 SE version. Hopefully, there would be an update to Win Mobile 5.0 later. Like the other Pocket PC Phones, SGH-i750 features full pack of Microsoft Office mobile applications as well as full HTML Internet browser and an email client.’

So we’ve got wifi, bluetooth, 2 megapixel camera, and Windows Mobile 2003??????????????????????? Samsung has some of the world’s best phone designers. Why in the world do they insist on old OS’s time and time again? Even so, this is a sweet design for those who like a more compact smartphone. Me, I can’t do without a QWERTY keyboard these days for my main phone. But I’m a big fan of the slider, and this one looks really nice. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these puppies.

Even without Wi-Fi, I think the Samsung i320 is going to be a bit hit. Thin phones are very hot right now, and this one is definately thin.
Engadget has the scoop on the Samsung i300x – here’s a clip – ‘Ok, look, we’re gonna be straight up on this one. We do like the fact that Samsung’s not settling down on the i300 and releasing the thing as a one-off or something like that — and we’re certainly not complaining about getting an extra gig of storage space at 4GB over its previous 3GB. But you know what we’d trade off before getting that extra bit of space? How about sooner getting Windows Mobile 5.0 on the thing instead of sticking to 2003 SE?’

Check out the official site on the Samsung i300x

This phone sounds pretty interesting. A 4GB harddrive makes all kinds of room for MP3’s & pictures. With the 1.3MP camera integrated, it will be worth taking lots of pictures. I hope Engadget is wrong about the OS though – this device really should have Windows Mobile 5. ETA? With Samsung you just never know. Great company, with some wild designs, but they definately have some issues with over-promising & under-delivering. They need to get their product launches completely in a more timely manner.

Mobileburn has a preview of the Samsung i830. They write – “Dropping the i730’s WiFi capabilities in favor of EV-DO wireless access, the Samsung i830 is a quad-band handset running the Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC 2nd edition (what a mouth full). It is unfortunate that Samsung has decided not to make the i830 a Windows Mobile 5 device, though with 64MB ROM/128MB RAM, an SD I/O slot, and dual speakers it covers most of the important features regardless. The Samsung i830 shares the same dimensions as the i730, as well as the nice 240×320 pixel resolution, 2.8″ display and slide out keyboard.”

This is truly going to be a phone to watch. It should be Windows Mobile 5, but I don’t think that will hinder it. The incredible form factor, coupled with EV-DO should make this phone a home run. If only Sprint would pick it up. ( HINT HINT – Sprint are you listening? )

Mobile Tracker reviews the Samsung i-730 and writes – ‘The Samsung SCH-i730 PDA/phone is an extremely fast, highly capable Pocket PC PDA with a stunning 320×240 screen which can be used in portrait or landscape modes, and cell phone with high quality reception. Unfortunately, the i730 empties its battery much too quickly, and, at a weight of virtually 8 oz (227gm) with its essential “extended” battery installed, is heavier than Palm’s weighty Treo.’

Mobile Passion reviews the Samsung i-730 and writes – ‘Samsung’s new SCH-i730 is a major improvement over their previous i700. The most visible change is the slide-down QWERTY thumb keyboard, for e-mail and other text entry duties. Less visible, but perhaps more important is the enhanced wireless power built into the device. The i730 has a built-in EVDO/1xRTT capable mobile phone as well as integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability.’

Mobile Tech Review reviews the Samsung i-730 and writes – ‘The Swiss Army Knife of Pocket PC phones. It has everything except a camera: Bluetooth, WiFi, EVDO, an AV remote, excellent thumb keyboard and voice recognition. Not only that, it’s quite compact, especially with the standard battery. If you’re a power user craving serious processing power, plenty of memory and triple wireless, the i730 beckons. The keyboard slider is well made and has nice spring-loaded action and the keyboard itself is on par with the Treo 650. The screen is vibrant and bright, incoming call volume is good enough for even noisy places and Bluetooth plays well with all the headsets we tested’

This phone has been out for a few months, but I just discovered it today. I may have to give this one a serious look. It’s almsot exactly Treo-sized, but with a much larger screen, due to the slide-out keyboard. Phenomenal looking phone.

While the Samsung SGH-D600 isn’t technically a smartphone, I found it interesting enough to post here. It does have some smartphone features, such as Bluetooth, a memory card slot, and calender synchronization software.

MobileBurn reviews the Samsung SGH-D600 and writes – ‘Samsung’s SGH-D600 is a phone that is oh so close to being perfect. The camera takes some really beautiful phone, the display is magnificent, the slider form factor works well, it has quad band GSM support, and a host of other wonderful traits. But it also has one glaring problem: the T9 speed. Granted, that’s not as bad a not being able to make calls or something, but for many people, texting is a way of life. It will be a slower way of life if they use the D600.’

The Register has their own opinions on the Samsung SGH-D600 – ‘This is a great handset that should be at the top of your list if you are looking for a good GSM handset without a focus on mobile office working. What the D600 is good at is just being a stylish-looking phone for those not fussed with being connected to the office every waking minute or turning their mobile into a home entertainment system.’

Over at CNET here’s what they have to say on the Samsung SGH-D600 – ‘A first we’ve seen is the inclusion of an A/V output on a mobile phone. Using the same proprietary connector as the headphones, you attach one end of the supplied A/V cable to the side of the D600 and the other into composite video and stereo audio connections on your TV or projector. Once connected, the D600’s screen goes blank and the phone’s display is routed to the TV.’
