Sony Ericsson is releasing 3 new bluetooth headsets. The one pictured here is the HBH-IV835. It’s supposedly good for 3.5 hours of talk time, and should show up in Q2 2006. I think it’s one fine looking headset – definately would go great with a Sony Ericsson phone. (Via Gizmowatch)

Tech Digest reviews the upcoming Sony Ericsson M600 and writes – ‘Overall this is a quality handset from Sony Ericsson. The QVGA 2.6-inch 262k color touch screen display is pretty impressive too. I am still not convinced by the keyboard, but for corporates looking for a light smartphone that’s stylish has a decent screen and yet includes push email the M600 is a very good bet.’

Mobile Mag reviews the Sony Ericsson M600 and writes – ‘There’s 80MB of internal memory to be found, as well as an expansion slot that takes the company’s Memory Stick Micro cards. It goes without saying that this handy phone is Bluetooth ready, so quick data transfers and handsfree chatting are far from being an issue. And it seems like this smartphone will be made available in either black or white.’

Mobile Whack reviews the Sony Ericsson M600 and writes – ‘New push email applications, remote synchronization and expandable memory give owners a UMTS phone and email connectivity at just 15 mm thickness! Other standard features also include Media Player (MP3, AAC, and ACC+, E-AAC + m4a), StreamingAudio/VideoPowerPoint, Word and Excel editors, and Adobe PDF viewer IrDA, USB support, QVGA 2.6-inch 262k color touch screen display with handwriting recognition.’

Mobile Burn reviews the Sony Ericsson M600 and writes – ‘The second handset in Sony Ericsson’s line-up featuring Symbian OS 9.1 and UIQ 3.0, the Sony Ericsson M600 is a very thin and stylish business device. Along with a keypad similar to that seen on the Blackberry 7100 series, the handset features a QVGA touch sensitive screen and Bluetooth wireless technology, though paying homage to its business design, does not feature a camera.’

If the possibility of a Blackberry 7100 series killer exists, I think this is it. Sony Ericsson just has a way with design that few others have. I’m still not convinced about the funky keyboard.. but time will tell if this style works out or not. What do you guys think about it vs a full QWERTY or even a regular keypad?

Sony Ericsson is releasing a Blogger Phone. Well two, actually – the K790 and K800. These phones have the Blogger application pre-installed, which makes it very easy to start & post to a blog. Of course, they also come with a 3.2 MP digital camera, bluetooth, push email, and a music player.

Most of the features of these phones are neat, but sort of ho-hum. The Blogger part is probably one of the most innovative things I’ve seen in awhile – how much easier can blogging really get? I know, most of us can set up and post using our smartphones… but the average person wouldn’t have a clue. These phones make that so much easier. Kudos to Sony Ericsson. Look for this phone Q2 2006.

Mobile-Review has some great info on the upcoming Sony Ericsson P990. Here’s an excerpt – ‘The designers tried to keep the look of Sony Ericsson P900/P910 and make it as rememberable. The difference in the body size is not very big, since this phone has the dimensions of 114×57x25 mm and the P900, for instance, is 117×57x27 mm in size. At the same time the absence of colour changes makes the model look thicker, now it is only in silvery. Using the device raises the same feelings as the previous smartphones, no unexpectedness. However, you should better carry it on your waist in a case or in a pocket of your jacket. In a shirt or in a trousers pocket the device seems rather inappropriate.’

Mobile Gazette also has a preview of the Sony Ericsson P990 available. They write – ‘One immediately noticeable change is the keyboard. On the P990, the small alphabetic keyboard is fixed to the phone and is revealed by flipping down the number pad. Immediately about the QWERTY keyboard is a 2.6″ 240×320 pixel display. When the number pad is in use, it appears to cover around 80 pixels or so from the bottom of the display, which gives the P990 both “open” and “closed” display modes, as with the P900 and P910.’

Engadget never fails to pick up the big stories. Here’s what they have to say about the Sony Ericsson P990 – ‘This 3G (UMTS) smartphone has the same dimensions as the P910 but adopts the Symbian OS 9.1 and UIQ 3 software platform while throwing down with WiFi (802.11b), Bluetooth, a 2 megapixel camera with “photo light,” video calling, FM radio, MP3 and MPEG-4 player, and keyboard (QWERTY, QWERTZ, AZERTY, or Russian) underneath the flip-down keypad.’

Sony Ericsson has some of the best phone & smartphone designers the world has ever seen. This phone is, without question, beautiful. The design is just brilliant. Not to mention is has almost everything one could want – a regular keypad & a QWERTY, touchscreen, bluetooth, wifi, FM radio, MP3 & video player, and a 2 Megapixel camera! I really dig the back of the phone – how it looks like a camera. If only they would move to a Palm OS or Windows Mobile …. or maybe I just need to really give Symbian a chance.
Engadget has a short preview of the Sony Ericsson P970. This model is supposed to be a trimmed – down version of the upcoming Sony Ericsson P990. Looks like they’re keeping the touchscreen & the jog dial ( Hello Sony Clie! ). Here’s hoping that funky qwerty-esque keyboard goes far, far away.
